About Daniel Turner
Daniel Turner is a lifelong Niagara resident and an economist who is passionate about building a stronger, more vibrant community for everyone who calls this area home.
He is an Economist with a Master of Business Economics from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Bachelor of Economics from Brock University.
Daniel serves as a Volunteer Firefighter at Ridgeway Station 4 and is a Trustee of the Fort Erie Library
Daniel believes in practical, responsible government that listens to residents, spends taxpayer dollars wisely, and makes decisions openly and honestly. With deep roots in Niagara and a genuine commitment to his neighbours.
Daniel is running to bring Efficiency, Accountability, and Transparency to municipal government, so that Ridgeway and Fort Erie can continue to grow in a way that benefits everyone.
Fort Erie Deserves Its Fair Share
In 2025, the Province invested nearly $250 million to open a new full-service hospital in Grimsby, complete with 55 beds, a 24/7 Emergency Department, and maternity services. (West Lincoln Memorial Hospital)
Grimsby’s population is about 32,000.
Fort Erie’s is larger — around 37,000 and still growing.
Yet Fort Erie is scheduled to lose its Urgent Care Centre at Douglas Memorial in 2028.
This is not fair!
Fort Erie faces pressures other communities do not:
We sit on a major international border crossing
We experience high daily and seasonal traffic
Tourism creates significant temporary population increases
Many residents face longer travel times to the new hospital in Niagara Falls
The Province has shown it will invest in local hospital capacity when it chooses to. Fort Erie deserves the same consideration — not only because of our population, but because of our unique role as a growing border community.
I will fight to keep 24/7 urgent care in Fort Erie and push for the local health care capacity our community needs.

Responsible Spending
Too often, departments feel pressure to spend every dollar just to protect next year’s budget. I’ll push to change that culture, building budgeting practices that encourage savings and better results with the resources we already have.
My background as an economist has taught me how to maximize results while working within real constraints. I will bring that same discipline to Town Hall: doing more with what we already have, without asking residents for more money or tax increases.
Every dollar spent is an opportunity to find a dollar that can be saved, while protecting the services families count on. I will also look beyond our borders and work with neighbouring municipalities to share costs and cut duplication.
I will push for a review of our procurement policy so we attract the strongest bidders, award contracts on quality and efficiency rather than relationships, and stop handing more work to contractors who routinely come in over budget.

Preserving Our Neighbourhoods
I will work with landowners and developers in Ridgeway early — before plans are locked in, so new projects are designed to fit the neighbourhood and are more likely to be welcomed by the people who already live here. The goal is not to stop growth. It is to make sure growth adds to the look, feel, and value of surrounding properties instead of taking away from them.
Ridgeway is a nationally significant historic location. It is home to a National Historic Site and a village core that has earned the right to have its heritage respected. That means the best development: projects that honour the character of this community, not ones that treat it as just another lot to fill.
Preserving neighbourhood character will be a clear priority on Council, by setting the standard early, working with applicants in good faith, and insisting that Ridgeway gets development worthy of its history.

Economic Prosperity and Opportunity
Growing the business tax base will help take pressure off residential taxpayers. I will work to attract manufacturing investment to Fort Erie and help existing businesses expand by cutting through red tape. Canada’s economy is entering a new phase, with new opportunities among trading partners around the world.
Fort Erie must keep working with our U.S. neighbours to bring more investment across the border, but also work with other levels of government to win investment from partners like the European Union. Airbus, a France based company with a major presence here, shows what that looks like when we get it right.
As Canada builds more of its own defence and advanced manufacturing capacity, Fort Erie should be competing for those companies. We have the manufacturing history and a world-class location. As councillor, I will work to welcome those employers, making it clear that this community is ready for investment that creates good jobs and grows the tax base without putting more of the load on homeowners.

Stronger Local Safety
I will fight for Ridgeway to get its fair share of Niagara Regional Police enforcement and patrol. I’ll push for effective traffic calming, faster bylaw action, and continued support for our Fire Department.
From every corner of the ward I have heard the same thing: public safety is a top concern. Residents feel there is not enough traffic enforcement here, and that Ridgeway has not had a strong enough voice asking for more Regional Police presence. I will change that.
I have the highest respect for the men and women of Niagara Regional Police and I value the work they do every day. I will work with them, and with Regional partners, to make a clear, consistent case that this community deserves its fair share of patrol and stronger accountability on our roads.
Fort Erie is about 60% larger in population and 35% larger in land mass than Port Colborne, yet our fire service costs nearly half of theirs. That volunteer model works because people here show up for their neighbours. It only stays that way if we invest in training, safety, and cancer prevention, and if we work to retain the experienced firefighters who already carry this department.
I have not been with the service long, but it has already been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. If elected, I will make sure our firefighters feel valued and supported, so we keep the people we have, keep the volunteer model strong, and protect a service that saves taxpayers millions.
